The last few centuries have seen many an Englishman and Englishwoman convert to Islam. Prominent figures in the modern Muslim collective consciousness, their journeys into the faith have often-time been sources of amazement and wonder to all who would hear them. And yet one would be hard pressed to find an account more stirring and more beautiful than that of John Gilbert Lennard. Born in 1915 into an upper class family, Lennard’s heart was turned towards Islam after reading Imam Hujwiri’s Kashf al-Mahjub.

In this memorable circle Sheikh Abdal Hakim traces out Shah Shahidullah’s life, from the spires of Oxford to the slums of Karachi, from the world of Wodehouse to the realm of Data Ganj Baksh, Baba Fareed Ganjshakar and his own Sheikh, Hazrat Maulana Syed Muhammad Zauqi Shah

In an age of scepticism and doubt, the life of Shah Shahidullah Faridi stands out as a beacon of light, a proof of the spiritual way and the heights that man can reach when he sets out with sincerity on the path towards the Divine.

May Allah accept Shah Shahidullah’s efforts and prayers in this life, and grant him the heights of paradise and proximity to the ones he loves in the next. Ameen.

About the Author:

Qadi Iyad bin Mussa or Abu al-Fadl Ayyad bin Amer ben Mousssa bin Ayyad bin Mohammed bin Abdellah bin Mussa bin Ayyad al-Yahsobi al-Sabti (1083 – 1149).
The Judge Abul Fadl Iyyad ibn Musa al-Yahsubi (d. 544/1129) was the most famous of Malikite scholars in the western part of the Muslim world. He was born in Sabta (Ceuta, may Allah turn it to Dar al-Islam) in the year 467/1083 and buried in Marrakech in the year 544/1149. He was the premier Hadith scholar of the late Almoravid period and qadi al-jama’a of the cities of Granada and Sabta.

Al-Qadi Iyyad is mostly famous for his flawless Malikite orthodoxy and book “Kitab as-Shifa Bita’rif Huquq al-Mustapha” (The Antidote in Knowing the Rights of Chosen Prophet), is a tradition based treatise that promotes the veneration of the Chieftain of the Universe, the Reason of Existence, the Seal of Prophethood and Messengership, Sidna Mohammed (peace and blessing be upon him) as the universal archetype of humanity. A famous adage, of whom it was said, “Were it not for Iyyad Morocco would not have been mentioned.”

About the Book

Kitab Ash-shifa bi tarif huqub al-Mustafa, (Healing by the recognition of the Rights of the Chosen One), of Qadi Iyad is perhaps the most frequently used and most commented upon handbook in which the Prophets life, his qualities and miracles are described in every detail. This book is highly admired throughout the Muslim world and is quick to acquaint the reader with the true stature of the Prophet saw.

gathers together all that is necessary to acquaint the reader with the true stature of the prophet, peace and blessing be upon him, with esteem and respect which is due to him, and with the verdict regarding anyone who dares not fulfill what his stature demands or who attempts to denigrate his supreme status – even by as much as a nail pairing.

This is a book that every Muslim should read, every home should have, and every child should be taught. May Allah send his infinite blessings on the Prophet, his family and his companions. May He raise the rank and have mercy on Qadi Iyad. And may he reward our Shaykha Aisha Bewley for her services to the Ummah.
